Have a Little Priest...

Woo, Sweeney Todd! Now attend the tale of making this drawing:

I started it several weeks ago, and, as usual, drew it larger than I meant to so I couldn't get his other arm on the page (which would have been hard anyway, since it's stretched out). I spent a while on him, then realized Mrs. Lovett had to get in there too. Long story short, her head was not working. But he looked weird without her. So, I decided to draw her on a separate page. Long story short, I finally drew her head on a separate page but drew her body on the same page as Sweeney. Then I had to scan them all. But my sketchbook is the size of the scanner bed, so I had to scan it in two parts (per page) to get the whole thing. So, long story short, I had to patch it together in PS from three different files. I just wanted you to know how hard it was.

Annnnyway, I wouldn't do it if I didn't want so obviously I wanted to. One of these days, when I clear out my drawing queue a bit, I want to do these two all over again and make a neat job of it.

This is another one of my attempts to do quicker drawings from photos, but because of all the fabric I think it still wound up being about 15 hours of work, spread over a few weekends. But like I said...I wouldn't do it if I didn't want to. And now I'm seeing a kinds of mistakes so...if I don't post it now, I never will.

And I have several pages of Sweeney Todd-ness in my sketchbook. So...to borrow a phrase from the ads, BEWARE. Sweeney Todd is coming!

Musical Sweeney Todd and Mrs. L belong to Sondheim. I guess we can give Tim Burton some credit too. And Helena Bonham Carter. And...what's that guy's name?

Also. I reeeeally like Daniel Day-Lewis (Last of the Mohicans? Heck yes.). But somebody! Give Johnny Depp an Oscar! He's overdue!
